Motorola 68010 CPU.

This CPU is a pin compatible upgrade for the CDTV,
It, like the 68000 found in the CDTV is a 16 Bit CPU but can run tasks
faster and at higher clock rates than the original.
The 68010 is normally clocked at 10 Mhz (Instead of the CDTV's 7.14
Mhz) and ran at about 10 to 20% faster.
The speed difference is dependant on the task and if it is enhanced
for the 68010.
Some standard CDTV titles will not run on the 68010 due to small differences
in the CPU's but all / 99% of Workbench programs will.
This CPU is the easiest upgrade for the CDTV but unlike CPU accelerator
cards there is no way to return to the original CDTV set-up unless you remove
the 68010 and replace the 68000 every time you find a program that doesnt
like the new CPU.
Clock speeds of the 68010 went up to 28Mhz but nether Commodore or Amiga
made computers that used the 68010 CPU,
This was because of the little speed increase was not worth the incompatibility of some titles.
The up side is that this CPU is a very cheap upgrade, The price is
approximatly £8 which is a little less than the £50 you will
be looking to pay for a 68030 or 68020 CPU card.
In the end its up to you if you go for the 68010 CPU, I would say that
if you just wanted to play CDTV titles then I would say stay with the 68000
CPU, If you use lots of Workbench programs like paint programs (FXPaint
is optimised for the 68010) or dearchivers then the 68010 may help and
be worth the upgrade.
This CPU was the last one to be 68000 pin compatible, It, like all
of the 680X0 series is made by Motorola.

information.
The original 68000 CPU was also upgraded and is available running up to 20Mhz but the layout of the chip changed to a surface mounted design which means an adapter would need to be made.
