W.A.W. Electroniks Bigram CD8.
8 Meg Fast Ram upgrade which connects to the Diagnostic Port.

This is W.A.W. Electronics biggest memory upgrade for the CDTV (The 68000 CPU Memory limit is 2 Meg Chip Ram and 8 Meg Fast Ram), It can take upto 8 Meg of ZIP ram (The same as used by the CDTV for Chip Ram) and connects to the diagnostic port of the CDTV. It was available in a 2 Meg version and could be upgraded in two meg steps (4 Chips) untill all of the spaces are full, The above picture shows a card with 4 Meg of ram.
The Bigram CD8 is very easy to install, You simply remove the case from the CDTV, Locate the Diagnostic connector (By the PSU, next to the Propriatry card cable) and place the cards connector over the slot and slowly push down untill its located, Then put teh case back on the CDTV, plug it back in and enjoy 8 Meg of fast ram. The card is shaped so not to overlap other W.A.W. upgrades.
The card cost 349 Dm when new for the two meg version with extra ZIP's available at an extra cost.
Fast Ram the name Amiga use for memory that can not be accessed by the graphics and sound chips, The closest thing on other platforms is XMS or EMS memory. For modern programs Fast Ram is almost always needed and 90% of old games can use it and get a nice speed boost (Games can request to only use chip ram, These titles are the other 10%, Commodores technical manuals always recomended developers not to limit the program to just use chip ram.)
These cards are very rare and the only place you will have a hope of finding one is on Ebay but you may have to look for a year to find one.
