So what is a Kickstart and Kickstart Switcher?
Part of the CDTV`s operating system is stored on a chip (Called a Kickstart) on the motherboard, This loads instantly when the CDTV is turned on without the need for a harddrive or other media present.
A problem occurs when you want to flip between different versions of the OS, This is needed for compatability with some programs (For example the CDTV`s Welcome disk has software on it to stop it loading on any CDTV not running OS1.3), So how do you do it? Well normally when you want to change the OS you had to open the CDTV up, Pull the kickstart chip out and put the other version in which isnt great if you just want to play an old game so the kickstart switcher was made (Firstly for the Amiga 500) which sends power to just one of the chips at a time so when you want to change OS versions just turn the CDTV off, flip the external switch and turn it back on.

Can I fit it in my CDTV?
Yes, the card is designed to fit around all CDTV upgrades, Even when you have every WAW card fitted in the CDTV (CPU, Chip ram & Fast ram cards).
You can use any Amiga 500 or Amiga 2000 kickstart from V1.3 to 3.1 (Although the CDTV does have V1.3 fitted so fitting two V1.3 chips would be a bit silly and if you use a higher version you will need V2 CDTV Proms or better or a CDTV Flash card.).

History.
The CD-Kick cost 39.00 DM and the CD-Bios cost 65.00 DM when new (The kickstart chips were extra).

Other options.
Any Amiga A500 or A2000 Kickstart switcher will work providing that there is an actual switch to change chips (Some interfaced with the Amiga 500`s keyboard which wont work on the CDTV as the keyboards are different).
