Kato Developments Melody sound card.
The Melody range of soundcards is one of the best known on the Amiga, There are both Zorro and Clock port versions for the Amiga 1200, 2000, 3000 & 4000 but there has never been a true sound card for the CDTV, Kato Development aimed to change that by altering there A1200 version to fit the CDTV, It was to be altered slightly because of size limitations, The Analog outputs were removed and instead connected to the CDTV`s paula (Audio chip). The card used the Melody Pro`s audio prossesor which offered Mp3 audio decoding through hardware.
The soundcard was to be AHI compatiable (If you used a CDTV with OS2.04 or above) and a special version of AMPlifier was to be adapted for Kickstart 1.3 which would have been the main interface for playing Mpeg audio using the hardware decoder, AMPlifier would have also been altered to use the CDTV joypad.
The software drivers would have been activated using a CD (A floppy may have been available as you could then save your preferences) before loading your program, It was intended that in later versions the software would have been loaded through ROM (A chip on the card).
The card would have connected underneath the CPU and to the Paula. so no extra external connectors were required.
The card was prototyped, Tested and worked well, Licences were sort but then the project was axed, The last update to the page read that it was "going to be the ultimate MPEG Layer-3 playback engine!" but it was never seen and Kato Development instead made a clock port adapter which was much simpler, The clock port adapter could take the A1200`s version of the Melody soundcard.
