W.A.W. Electroniks Turbo-Cd.

The Turbo-CD by W.A.W. Electronik was the only CDTV CPU upgrade which was launched, It used a 32Bit 14.2Mhz 68020 CPU and had a provision for an optional 68881 FPU at up to 50Mhz.
The FPU speeds up maths intensive programs like 3D games or Raytracers as this chip does the equations while the CPU is left to do other tasks.

The 14.2Mhz 68020 CPU was used in latter Amiga`s including the CD32 and Amiga 1200 and is much more powerfull than the standard 68000 at 7.14Mhz in your CDTV and it lets your CDTV run 32bit programs like the newwest OS (Workbench 3.5 or 3.9) and games like Gloom (A good Doom clone) and even movie players as well as speeding up your current software (Settlers runs on the standard CDTV 68000 CPU but autodetects better CPU`s and add`s extra sounds and larger maps).

The card did cost 299.00 DM when new but is never seen for sale second hand.

The upgrade is shaped to fit around all other WAW upgrades like the CD-kick, Bigram and Bigram 8 cards.

The card fits in place of the original 68000 CPU and if wished the 68000 CPU can be put back on top of the Turbo-CD so that you can switch back to the 68000 for running any programs that do not work on the 68020.
This card is the fastest CPU upgrade designed for the CDTV but was never sold outside mainland Europe.
