Commodore`s CDTV TV Style Remote Prototype.

Late on in the CDTV`s develompent stages, Just prior to the CDTV being sent to developers Commodore showed the unit of to a few magazines and at developers conferences, Now this isnt unusuall, The CDTV looked just like the launch version but with one difference, Every photograph availabe has the CDTV with a TV style remote sitting on top (I belive the photographs are the same in both the developers documentation and Commodore Format`s review), The remote is a CDTV one, It is designed with a power, CD/TV & CDDA control buttons and a full numeric pad.
The device is probably powered by two AA batterys (Like the CDTV Joypad and IR mouse) and uses the IR port on the CDTV (Which at the time would have been almost none functional).
The remote was on two pictures, One was part of the Commodore Format`s Preview of the CDTV (available in the "Old Adverts" section of this site) and the other was on the CDTV information set given to members of CATS at one of the developers conferences, The above photograph was from the CF preview as its the only one with a colour photo.
The remote was never launched, Either as an upgrade or just to developers.
The remote would have suited the CDTV`s brief, To make a computer that everyone could use, Everyone had a remote control for there TV & VCR so could understand the basics on how to work it but it would have been very hard to use for much else than audio CD control (There are no arrow keys), Even if they did fit arrow keys to it could you imagine playing Lemmings or SimCity using it? For that reason it couldnt be the standard remote that was sold with the CDTV and no one would buy it as an extra so would have just let the CDTV down.
If it was lucky a Commodore developer would have saved the prototype remote and took it home (They did that a lot, those soft centred people).
